Publisher Appointments

Getting to pitch your book idea to a literary agent or acquisitions editor is a rare opportunity in today’s publishing world.

Yet, for the past 20 years, She Speaks Conference has been bringing in representatives from the top agencies and publishing houses to meet with you one-on-one and hear your book idea.

At She Speaks Online 2021, we are thrilled to have 19 publishing experts who are making themselves available for a 15-minute live video appointment on a first-come, first-served basis.

The purpose of meeting with a publisher or agent

is to pitch a well-formulated book proposal or one-sheet.

  • A book proposal is a written document containing information about your platform, your audience and an overview of your book, including two to three sample chapters. Consider it a sales pitch for you and your book.
  • A one-sheet is a summary of your book proposal on one sheet of paper only.

Depending on the specific preference of the agent or editor you meet with, you will be asked to submit either a one-sheet or a book proposal two weeks before the conference.

If this is your first time pitching a book to a publisher or agent, we recommend you consider purchasing our two-part pre-recorded webinar series to prepare you for your appointment.

These appointments will take place during the conference, and you’ll pick the publisher, day and time of your meeting.

It’s important to note that we can not guarantee you an appointment with a specific publisher. The appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis the day they are opened for selections.

We’ve assembled some common questions below. If you don’t see yours, feel free to reach out to us at

Appointment Details and Common Questions

How many appointments do I get?

We allow one appointment per She Speaks participant.

When will the appointments be held?

Your publisher or agent appointment will be scheduled throughout the three days of the conference: June 24-26, 2021.

When do I select my appointment?

When you register for the conference, you will be asked to indicate your preference for an appointment. Then, at a later date (announced when you register), you will be given a list of every publisher/agent in attendance and the type of book/author they are seeking. We will give you sufficient time to review the choices, and then the appointment selection process will be opened up on a specific date. On that day, you will choose one publisher or agent, and the date and time of your appointment.

Please note these appointments are first-come, first-served. So you will want to be ready on the day we open the appointments.

Do I get to pick with whom I meet?

Yes, but we are unable to guarantee your first choice will be available when you go to make your selection. We suggest you identify your top five choices before the selection process opens.

How do I create a book proposal?

There are online resources you can search, or you can purchase a book that will help you. However, at Proverbs 31 Ministries, we have put together a two-part pre-recorded teaching that is available for an extra charge. These teachings by Glynnis Whitwer and Karen Ehman will help prepare you for the conference and your appointment, including teaching you about a one-sheet and a proposal.
